InterArts Fresno is about bringing classical music and opera to where people are, meeting them on their terms and in their communities. It is about producing world class performances, without compromise, while also being engaging, informative and contextual through multi-disciplinary tools, in order to connect with audiences who already value classical music and opera, as well as with underserved audiences who may have not yet had the opportunity to experience such rich art forms or who might have thought them intimidating, foreign, or not relevant to their lives. We aim to earn relevance, and to never take it for granted. We are focused on building a grassroots movement of classical music and opera lovers in the Central Valley. We want to produce concerts in neighborhoods where people live and feel at home, instead of insisting that all performances be held in concert halls. We engage museum curation techniques, research, video and audio storytelling, and visual arts to connect with people of all ages, while never ‘dumbing down’ our performances. Companion initiatives will produce video and audio content for digital distribution to find audiences where they are.
